What is ZenLeaf?
ZenLeaf by Desert Harvest, written as one word to distinguish it from other similarly named brands, is a hemp-derived botanical supplement. Hemp is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant grown for its fibre, seeds and extracts. This is a description of what the product is, not a health or wellbeing claim.
In the European Union, hemp extracts intended for use in food and supplements are treated as novel foods under Regulation (EU) 2015/2283. This means they require a European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) safety assessment and EU authorisation before they may be sold. No such authorisation is yet in place, so ZenLeaf is not available in the EU.
The picture differs by country: the United Kingdom operates its own Food Standards Agency (FSA) public-list route, which is separate from the EU process.
